MicroGranny Chimes In
Переглядів 3,6 тис.5 років тому
The wind was blowing, the chimes were chiming, and the MicroGranny was granning and crunching the noise. A short Bastl MicroGranny jam based on a shorter sample of Woodstock Wind Chimes Bach version being blown in the wind.
On the Rocks (LOUD)

In this short video, I revisit a 0-Coast harmonization concept I tried long ago. The basic idea is to use the SQ-1 for controlling both the main oscillator (on channel B) and the slope circuit as a second audio-rate oscillator (on channel A). In this patch I leave the internal routing from slope to the overtone multiplier, so the multiply circuit provides the harmonies via oscillation of the ov...
Back-round Graydiation (nailed it)

This jam (un-nailed it with the back part of the hammer) includes all the favorite beat-team members, each doing what he/she does best. Mutable Instruments Braids does the harmonic backing with some help from the Korg SQ-1, Make Noise Maths, and the Doepfer Wasp filter. The trusty PO-12 Rhythm does the beats and keeps everyone else in time with the help of the 4ms Quad Clock Distributor. The QC...
Wood Stove Noises (for samplers)
Переглядів 1,4 тис.5 років тому
Please forgive my long absence on the ‘tube; it has been tough to make time for music lately. My fiancé and I just moved to a new place and became the proud owners of a wood stove. Besides making lots of heat, I quickly realized it also makes tons of cool sounds. So I recorded them and sampled them into the PO-33 for some clangy, squeaky fun! The first ~10 seconds are just the sounds, ready to ...
Patch from Scratch: 0-Coast all alone
Переглядів 2,8 тис.5 років тому
I’m starting a new thing called “Patch from Scratch.” (I later realized that I accidentally stole this title from Make Noise, so I'd credit to them for the awesome synth and for the title). I’m going to share some of the extra odd aspects of modular synthesis through individual patches, uninterrupted by human sounds. Each video in this series will start with a blank slate, just an untouched mod...
Joyful Noise (an experiment in 3/4 time)
Переглядів 3725 років тому
It’s been a while since the OP-1 has done a solo track around here. Please join me on a short adventure through OP-1 land, where the cow rules with an iron hoof. Also, I accidentally rediscover several features: how the memorize buttons work and what shift does when adjusting tape speed. All sounds are from the OP-1 or stock drum samples. This is a more experimental track, so I didn’t bother re...
Bastl’s Kastles (a larger context for the tiniest modular synths)
Переглядів 18 тис.5 років тому
It’s about time I revisited the Bastl Kastle (original AND v1.5) and gave some more detailed information about how I use these little modular monsters in the context of other musical gear. 0:44 Kastle audio output is VERY LOUD! Get a cheap headphone attenuator! 1:40 3.5mm TRS R/L channel splitter to use with the i/o jack in modular context. 2:29 What’s with the LED plugged into the Kastle? 3:05...
Try Something New (it doesn’t always have to sound like music)
Переглядів 2225 років тому
I felt the need to patch some weird sounds and was not disappointed with the results. It turns out that modular synths are quite excellent for this kind of thing. Please pardon the shaky camera work. Enjoy the noise! Bastl Kastle v1.5 does some weird low droney sounds and I mess with it, causing some static noises. The modular setup then comes in to add some higher pitched chirps. These sounds ...

Black Boxes

I’ve run out of very small synths to play one at a time. In light of this development, today I created a song using several smallish synths and a metric ton of cables, connectors, and adapters. About the Black Boxes: The 0-Coast does some bass things and provides modulating voltage to the Bastl Kastle v1.5. Kastle makes some sparse sounds and then drones later. Microgranny is playing back a man...
